Handmade Eyeballs, Beginners Can Easily Make

[MeMo Land--a pure wonderful space full of love]

Hello everyone, I'm Olivia, the owner of the [MeMo Land] account

The idea behind the name [MeMo Land] is: memory molded souls. Every BJD doll is filled with love by its owner and endowed with a unique soul.

I am a handicraft enthusiast. Recently, I started making eyeballs for my BJD dolls. I find it really fun! You can freely create patterns and colors, and the finished product is full of pleasant surprises!

In this first issue, I'll introduce how beginners can get started making BJD eyeballs. It's not difficult--I believe you can also create unique eyeballs for your doll!

1- Materials and Tools Preparation

First, you need to prepare these materials and tools.

[Materials and Tools]

Heres a brief introduction to their uses:

1. BJD plaster/resin eyeblank: the base.

2. Hard oil clay: for sculpting the iris shape.

3. Ball stylus: shaping the clay.

4. Carving knife: for details.

5. Pigment Powder & Paint: for color!

6. UV resin: for that glossy finish and dome.

7. Mold: for making pupil and high curve lens.

8. Fine Brushes: for coloring to easily paint desired details and avoid too much powder.

9. Mixing Palette: can be used to mix pigments or paint with UV resin to achieve desired colors.

10. UV lamp: curing the resin.

11. Lego stand/base: just a base stand, anything that can serve as a base is a suitable substitute.

12. Blower brush: for blowing away excess pastel powder.

13. Sticky tack: used for fixing things in place.

14. Lighter: for removing small bubbles.

2-Main Steps for Making Eyeballs

1.【Prepare Eyeblanks Select a pair of appropriately sized blank plaster or resin eyeblanks.

2.【Fill with Clay Take a piece of clay, soften it by kneading, fill the center of the eyeblank, press into shape using a suitable ball stylus, and scrape off excess clay with a carving knife.

3. Carve the Iris Pattern First, mark the center and a cross to ensure the pattern is centered. Then, unleash your creativity!

4.Add Color After carving, you can start coloring. Since the eyeball is small, use a very fine brush and apply color slowly. Generally, 2-3 colors are enough – feel free to mix and match.

5.Make the Pupil Mix a little pigment with UV resin, take a small amount and place it into the pupil mold or directly inserted into the eyeball, then cure under the UV lamp for about 1 minute.

6.Apply UV Resin First, apply a thin layer with a brush. Then, drip one drop. You can briefly pass a lighter flame over it to remove bubbles, then cure under the lamp.

7.High Curvature Dome Using the mold, Avoid using too much resin, or it won't lie flat. Place the prepared dome carefully, ensuring no bubbles, then cure.

8.Final Seal Coat Apply an appropriate amount of UV resin to coat the entire eyeball surface, then cure for 5 minutes.

Note: During each UV resin application step, you can use a lighter to eliminate bubbles and cure with the UV lamp.

The unique eyeballs are complete! Give it a tryLooking forward to seeing your original eyeball creations!
